n:vision CFL Bulb Review – 23 watts, 2700k
Good Bulb
The n:vision CFL line is one of my favorites.
The 23 watt bulb is marked 2700k and is marked warm on the package. It is good for living rooms and kitchens. I’ve been using them for a while. My wife does not notice when I switch them out.
Many manufacturers don’t mark the kelvin, or light temp. I like that this one is marked.
The bulb is 4 3/4 inches tall, and just under 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
My comparison Sylvania bulb of 100 watts – regular tungsten – is 4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches in diameter, so this compact fluorescent should fit in most fixtures.
The package says it should be in an enclosed fixture if it’s used outdoors, so it appears to be OK in a closed fixture.
The bulb starts gradually – you can watch the spiral warm up. It is quiet – no buzzing.

Have you reviewed or used any “flame”-shaped, medium-based bulbs for chandeliers? I need to order those for 950-or-so apartments here in New York. What about the specific EcoSmart CFLs (with “A19″ within the name) sold by Home Depot and praised by Consumer Reports for the past 3 comparisons? Is that true, or do “personalities” and “extraneous” factors in play here? To replace the conventional-shaped bulbs, most cooperators here will want the warm white, 2700 Kelvin bulbs equivalent in lumen output to 75-watt CFLs. (One bonus: It might make moot tendency of CFs to degrade in intensity with time.)
P.S. Would most of these companies send samples I could test? I realize that LED lighting would cost them too much, but still.
P.P.S. Matt Ross runs EcoSmart, which is a real player. They’re also into solar, etc. Any veteran who has been to the hot, Middle-East deserts would know how to maximize energy!
