Bright Effects Globe CFL review 60 watt

Good Color, Good Size, Good Bulb

The Bright Effects 60 watt globe CFL is marked as a G25 bulb. It’s marked as having soft white light, but you have to look for it carefully. It has the Energy Star marking, and says it lasts for 7 years. The fine print says it’s warranty is for 2 years. Wattage is marked at 12 watts. My measurement indicates 8 watts.

The fine print says not to directly expose to the weather, and the usual about not using it with timers and dimmers. No mention of use in an enclosed fixture. The bulb itself says that if exposed to water, install it base up/ bulb down. The unit looks to be sealed.

I installed one in the exposed globe fixture in the bathroom, and – drum roll – my wife didn’t notice.

I bought 6 of these–at $9.00 a piece–and every one has failed in under 2 years. I returned them all to Lowes for a full refund and to ensure that the mercury content went back to the manufacturer. I consider the purchase of the 6 to be a $54 waste(plus the extra time I spent changing them and the extra gas I spent returning the failed bulbs.) I replaced them with 25 watt incandecent bulbs. Much more natural light, no mercury and I am finally saving money…

I have the same experience as bmiko with these bulbs. Bought 6 of them about a year ago, 4 failed within 6 months, the other 2 failed within 14 months. All of them have been replaced at no cost to me by the manufacturer, Feit Electric – http://www.feit.com/feitcontact.html

The original bulbs from Lowes had black printing on the base, model LBP12GTM2/35K . The new ones had green printing on the base, same model number. I am hoping I got bulbs from a bad lot, but based on what I am reading on the net, it must have been a big lot! We’ll see how long they last, but I would hesitate to buy more of their bulbs.

I had remarkably similar experience. I bought 12 for over 2 vanities in the bathroom.

LESS than a year later, 6 of them have failed.

    Pure crap.
